Siemens is to sell to Microscan the machine vision business concerning general-purpose and Nerlite lighting products; the sale takes effect on 19 September 2008. This sale includes the Simatic HawkEye 1600 intelligent cameras (smart cameras), the UID products, the Simatic Visionscape vision systems (including I-PAK), and the Nerlite lighting components. These products will remain available from Microscan after the sale.

In the remaining Machine Vision product portfolio, Siemens intends to focus more closely on RFID systems for the industrial identification (Auto ID) segment, thereby making the most of its existing position in the market, where the company claims to be one of the few manufacturers able to provide both RFID and code reading systems.
