Directors from a diverse range of businesses across Wales were honoured at the 2012 IoD Wales Director of the Year Awards ceremony and luncheon in Cardiff on 17 May 2012. Speaking at the event to an audience of more than 300 guests, Welsh Government Business Minister Edwina Hart congratulated the award winners and all those directors who had been shortlisted, saying: “I was very impressed by the calibre of those nominated. We need leaders and managers with the vision, confidence and skills to create strong, successful and sustainable businesses to revitalise the economy and create jobs. These awards are important as they recognise and reward those making a significant contribution to the success of the businesses and organisations they work for, despite the very challenging economic climate.”

As well as his role as Plant & Automotive Director at Schaeffler UK’s engine components plant in Llanelli, Roger Evans MBE is also Director of the Wales Management Council and Chairman of the Welsh Manufacturing Forum. IoD Wales Chairman Gareth Williams comments: “Roger is a great inspiration to fellow business leaders. He shows leadership, encourages innovation, invests in research & development, builds partnerships with suppliers, trains employees to high standards and generates profits to guarantee security.

“He’s an enthusiastic leader who adopts key external roles to formulate national strategies within his sector and he shares his management knowledge with others and seeks to persuade the Welsh Government to adopt key policies.”

Roger Evans comments: “I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be recognised with an award from the Institute of Directors. I look forward to continuing my role in helping Schaeffler UK and other manufacturing companies in Wales to grow and prosper over the coming years.”

IoD Wales Director Robert Lloyd Griffiths says: “Our winners represent all that’s good about Welsh enterprise; they’re hard working individuals who have key leadership roles in wonderful modern businesses. There’s a great deal of effort amongst private sector leaders to help steer Wales and the UK away from difficult economic times and our winners are brilliant examples of that drive and skill.”
