For manufacturers and suppliers of medical equipment and technology, COMPAMED offers a hotspot for high-tech equipment that showcases the developments and advancements within the industry. This year, Portescap will be presenting its precision motors that have been designed specifically for the medical market. It aims to demonstrate how OEMs can benefit from engaging with Portescap design engineers early in the project for true collaborative innovation.

Portescap is an expert in miniature motors and precision motion control systems designed specifically for use in medical technology. Visitors to COMPAMED will have the opportunity to review a complete range of motors, encoders and gearheads that deliver power and precision with extremely small footprints. The stand will also feature several application demonstrations including surgical hand tools, robotically assisted surgical devices and infusion systems.

Jamie Gewirtz, Portescap R&D Manager for Surgical Motors, will be part of the team hosting this year’s stand. He says: “Portescap was a pioneer in sterilisable motors and has been supplying the medical market for decades; today our products can be found in hospital wards and operating theatres around the world. The first thing that stand visitors will notice is the breadth of standard products that are available to choose from. However, the message we want them to take away is the added value of customisation that our design engineers offer when engaged early in the R&D stages.

“By working in partnership with our customers as early as the ideation stage of a new project, we can create highly differentiated custom concepts that are truly unique to their application. The benefits of early collaborative innovation then feed through to the project, including rapid prototyping and testing, as well as final lead times as low as 14 days for some customised solutions.”

The Portescap stand will be manned with sales and technical managers, all of whom understand the challenges of designing and manufacturing medical technology. They will be able to offer advice on the complete range of standard motors and motion control products as well as discuss the customisation possibilities that can be offered.
