Engineering time is a costly resource for machine builders, so any potential savings are worth investigating. Whether it is coincidence or an emerging trend, there have been several announcements in the past few weeks for products and software that are claimed to reduce engineering time:

  • B&R's Scalability+ philosophy makes life easier when creating machine control systems that are similar to one another but with differences;
  • Festo's EXCM Mini H Handler takes the company's proven X-Y table technology based on two motors driving a single recirculating belt, and packages it as a standardised product for compact positioning tasks;
  • HepcoMotion's VACSS and LTSS dual-vee linear and rotary guides are standard catalogue products for operating in extreme temperatures or vacuum;
  • WEG's Pump Genius software considerably simplifies the configuration of variable-speed drives for applications with single or multiple pumps.
