I have been spending more time watching the
discussions develop in various machinery
safety groups on LinkedIn - and I have contributed
to a few as well. These groups are an excellent
way to seek advice from experts without the
effort and expense of engaging a consultant,
though obviously you have to use your professional
judgement before acting on the advice given.
Beyond the dozens of machinery safety groups
there are countless groups relating to aspects
of machine building and industrial automation
such as machine design, pneumatics, hydraulics,
motion control and so on. If you have not yet
joined LinkedIn, then I would urge you to consider
it (don't worry, you can open an account
without divulging every last detail of your
professional life). And if you are already
a member, my profile is at http://uk.linkedin.com/in/jonathansevern
