Pneumatic module enables cabinet-free automation

The Simatic ET 200pro distributed I/O system from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is expanded with a pneumatic module for valve terminals from Festo and a powerful CPU interface module.

With the IM154-8 CPU interface module that corresponds to a Simatic S7-300 controller in functionality, the ET 200pro can now be used for the first time as an autonomous automation system. The pneumatic module with Festo valve terminals controls two single or double-acting cylinders.

With its high degree of protection IP65/66/67, the Simatic ET 200pro I/O system from Siemens is specially designed for harsh industrial use and is suitable for cabinet-free installation on-site directly at the machine. The new IM154-8 CPU interface module has two communication interfaces, one for Profibus and one for Profinet.

The CPU offers Ethernet communication using TCP/IP, UDP and ISO on TCP, as well as isochronous mode via Profibus. The integral web server provides information such as status, diagnostics and clock synchronization via Ethernet. In addition, maintenance alarms are indicated by means of LEDs. A micro memory card stores all the project data so that the CPU can be easily replaced without loss of data.

Up to seven pneumatic modules can be used to expand the Simatic ET 200pro; one Festo CPV 10 or CPV 14 standard valve terminal is plugged into one pneumatic interface module from Siemens. These are suitable for different flow measurements.
