Reading barcodes and 2D codes usually requires different systems, namely a classic scanner for reading barcodes, and a camera for 2D codes. However, the new LSIS 120 series from Leuze electronic combines barcode and 2D code reading in a single highly efficient unit. This reduces the complexity as well as the time required for installation, yielding considerable cost savings.
Potential industries and applications for this code reader are numerous, but it is designed to address the issues commonly seen in handling and testing machines, robotic systems, PCB handling, automotive, and analytic automation systems.
At only 40mm wide and 32mm high, the compact size of the LSIS 120 permits its use in confined spaces, while the M12 connection and metric mounting thread speed its installation.
Designed for industrial use, it has a robust metal housing with a glass window and IP65 protection. This, combined with its 'no moving parts' construction and wide voltage range from 10–30V DC, ensures high reliability even in harsh industrial environments.
Excellent read results are provided by the high camera resolution of 1.23 megapixels, which can read all common barcode and 2D codes omnidirectionally – ie they do not need to be arranged in a specific direction. A large reading field is obtained by wide-angle optics from Leuze electronic.
A choice between RS232 or USB interfaces provides additional flexibility of installation, as does the ability to activate and configure the unit manually by means of a trigger button. Extensive interconnectivity options are available including integrated Profibus or CAN protocols.
