Quick-clamping shaft collars need no toolsTechdrives is promoting Ruland Manufacturing's quick-clamping shaft collars that are suitable for making rapid adjustments on machine shafts without the need for tools. Clamping collars can also be fixed, adjusted and removed without damaging the shaft, unlike set screw collars that create burrs.

Normally clamping collars are fixed by tightening one or two bolts, but the quick-clamping design uses an over-centre, cam-type clamp and integral handle that can generate an axial holding force of up to 500N. Examples of machines that need regular adjustment are packaging, printing, medical, machine vision and semiconductor manufacturing.

Techdrives says the quick-clamping shaft collars are easily installed; they slide on the shaft smoothly and there is easy finger access to the handle so they can be removed or repositioned without tools. When the collars are installed, the handle is flush with the outside diameter - which makes them suitable for both rotating and stationary applications.

The design features a tension-adjustment screw that makes the collar compatible with wide shaft tolerances and also enables the axial holding force to be adjusted. Furthermore, the collars can be modified so they can be face-mounted to other components that need to be shaft-mounted.

Quick-clamping collars are made from aluminium for light weight and low inertia and they have an anodised finish. The hardware on the collars is made from stainless steel, which makes them suitable for wash-down applications, medical applications and some food applications.

Techdrives offers Quick-clamping shaft collars with bore sizes from 8mm to 35mm. The company also offers Ruland's wide range of collars, shaft couplings and rigid joints. Follow the link to find out more about the Ruland shaft collars.
