Standalone digiVIT digital variable impedance transducerJust announced as a non-contact eddy current sensor driver for position, displacement and proximity, Kaman’s new digiVIT is now available from its exclusive UK distribution partner Ixthus Instrumentation Ltd. The standalone sensor’s interface has a built-in self-tuning bridge and does not require connection to a PC for calibration when changing sensors or performing high-level calibration.

A simple pushbutton guided procedure sets up 2-, 6-, or 21-point linearity calibration. The digiVIT detects the coil parameters of the target sensor whilst the built-in bridge balances the circuit – achieving automatic tuning and optimum performance for the calibration range and target material. The unit also provides pushbutton temperature compensation and zeroing using its intuitive 4-button tactile keypad with all information presented on an easy to read digital display. Kaman’s digiVIT can be used with specific probe models that have been characterised over standard ranges with an aluminium target, but will perform with virtually any manufacturer’s inductive sensor on almost all conductive targets.

During operation the display indicates percentage of full scale (default), or a choice of voltage or current output values. Analogue output options are selectable from 0–5V DC, 0–10V DC (default), +/- 5V DC, +/- 10V DC, 4–20mA and 0–20mA. The DIN rail mounted unit measures less than 70 × 86 × 60mm (w × h × d) with all electrical connections via screw terminals. An Ethernet interface is also provided that may be used to read values and switch certain parameters, such as the analogue output type, over a network.
