Siemens UK & Ireland is now offering larger display sizes across the board in its Sinumerik 828D control range. The entry-level Sinumerik 828D basic now comes with a larger 10.4” display as standard, replacing the previous 8.4” version. For the first time, both the Sinumerik 828D and the Sinumerik 828D Advanced are available with a 15.6” display equipped with capacitive touch technology, featuring an intuitive display that can be operated with single-touch gestures.
These enhancements have been made to further increase visibility and ease of use. For example, the wider screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1366 × 678 pixels provides more space for detailed images. The 15.6” display on the Sinumerik 828D Advanced is also suitable for viewing two channels, for use during turning and grinding operations.
The PPU 290’s rugged magnesium die-cast operator panel with a scratch-proof glass surface provides an IP65 degree of protection. The display works even in harsh environments – such as when in contact with dust, shavings or lubricants – and can be operated with gloves. An RJ45 Ethernet port and a USB port are located on the panel front for quick, easy networking and connecting external storage devices.
As expected with the Sinumerik 828 range, the panel is designed without a fan or hard disk, making it maintenance free. Meanwhile, NV-RAM technology allows emergency backups to be made without the need for a battery, to protect against data loss.
Andy Hodgson, General Manager – Motion Control, Digital Factory, Siemens UK & Ireland, says: “We’re always looking to meet the needs of fast-paced industrial environments, and the addition of larger screens and capacitive touch technology into our Sinumerik 828D products is an example of how we have made it easier to complete automation tasks.
“The ongoing investment in Sinumerik and other product ranges demonstrates Siemens UK & Ireland’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions to manufacturers working across a number of sectors.”
Version 4.7 Service Pack 2 of Sinumerik Operate is required to use the new displays. For more information about the Sinumerik 828D control range, visit www.siemens.com.
