Mechan Controls has launched the patented HED safety switch that the company says is unique in its ability to monitor two adjacent doors with a single switch and a coded magnetic actuator on each door, which saves on installation time, cabling, parts count and purchase costs - one HED switch costs around half the price of two separate switches. The non-contact actuators can approach the switch from most angles, with the switching distance being 7mm. Safety-related specifications are PL e, Category 4 and SIL 3.
Each HED switch has two normally-open safety contacts. When either door (or gate, guard or cover) is opened, a normally-open contact is opened and the corresponding normally-closed auxiliary contact is closed. Both doors must be closed to enable the two N/O contacts to close and the N/C indication contact to close. LED status indicators on the switch body aid fault diagnosis.
Mechan's robust HE series switches are fully encapsulated in ABS, sealed to IP67 and are available with 3m, 6m or 10m pre-wired cables; alternatively, quick-disconnect leaded versions can be specified. Measuring just 150x40x14mm, the switch is convenient for mounting on machine frames. The operating temperature range is -25 to +55degC.
