Siemens UK & Ireland has released an entry-level version of its industry-standard SIMATIC industrial 19-inch rack mount PC. SIMATIC IPC347 is especially suitable for production applications requiring a PC with greater ruggedness and a higher availability than office-grade PCs. These include visualisation and SCADA tasks, data collection and management, testing and measuring tasks in discrete production and process automation, as well as logistics and laboratory automation applications.
Like other rack PCs in the SIMATIC family, the new entry-level SIMATIC IPC347E model is designed for reliable, 24-hour use in industrial settings which have higher ambient temperature (up to 40degC), vibration, shock and EMC requirements. The dust protection filter and overpressure ventilation system also protects the Industrial PC against damage when used in harsh (dusty) environments.
SIMATIC IPC347E is available from stock in five configurations. Users can select the appropriate processor performance with either an Intel Pentium or 4th generation Core i5 processor; optional +/- R/RW DVD drive and optional pre-installed 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate operating system. The PCs each have 7× PCI(e) expansion slots for easy expansion and integration into existing systems, a 500GB hard disk, and 2 or 4GB RAM, which can be increased up to 16GB.
Paul Herron, Product Manager - Siemens Factory Automation at Siemens UK & Ireland comments: “We are always looking for new ways to meet the needs of the manufacturing sector. The addition of this entry-level Industrial Computer has been conceived as an attractive alternative to ‘Office-grade’ PCs in applications where traditionally the cost of Industrial PCs would be considered prohibitive. A great example is a SCADA workstation in a production office or control room, but it is equally suitable in many other areas, such as test and measurement applications.
“Our ongoing investment in the SIMATIC Industrial PC product range, and our wider industrial portfolio, demonstrates our commitment to improving manufacturing processes now, and in the future.”
