HBM is now making its CFT range of piezoelectric force sensors available without a corresponding charge amplifier to give clients greater freedom when choosing components.

This move will particularly benefit clients that operate the sensors in a partial range of their nominal (rated) load. This can be achieved with piezoelectric sensors as the output signal is not dependent on the nominal (rated) load of the force transducer used.

Alternatively, a charge amplifier with a smaller measurement range may provide better resolution.

The force transducers are available with nominal (rated) loads of 5kN, 20kN, 50kN, 70kN and 120kN. In transducers with smaller nominal (rated) loads of 5kN and 20kN, the piezo-crystal is Gallium phosphate (GaPO4), which has an output signal of 7.9pC/N. Quartz is used as the sensor element for the larger nominal (rated) load ranges.

Factory-calibrated in two ranges, the transducers can be used immediately in the application. The compact structure of the robust sensors and the IP65 degree of protection enable operation even under difficult conditions.

Typical applications for the CFT range of piezoelectric force sensors are in monitoring production processes such as joining, spot welding, press fitting or punching, where the sensors can provide valuable information about process quality.
