Air-cooled, high-torque brake for offshore and mining industries

Wichita Clutch is launching a new air-cooled, spring-set, air-released brake which is designed for high-torque applications in harsh environments such as off-shore, marine and mining. The AirMaKKs SSB brake is part of Wichita's AquaMaKKs range and offers low-speed braking assistance for both parking and E-stop braking functions.

The AquaMaKKs series of brakes from Wichita offer a simple design which performs reliably in high-torque applications in harsh environments. The design features fewer parts for simple installations and maintenance, and a shim design that makes it easy to maintain and adjust for wear. This makes the series suitable for field retrofits, rebuilds or new OEM applications, especially as adjustment for wear is easily accomplished by removing shims without any unit disassembly.

Wichita's AirMaKKs SSB shares the same easy-to-maintain, pin-style modular design template with the rest of the AquaMaKKs, including the brake housing with torque plates installed instead of water jackets. The units are equipped with three-part marine-grade paint and corrosion-resistant coatings for added protection on off-shore rig platforms and marine applications. Stainless steel torque plates are also available for marine deck applications where sea spray is prevalent, and other applications which require corrosion protection.
