Aluminium cases protect specialist aerospace instrumentation

Zero Cases UK Ltd is exporting its protective cases to Leopshere, which markets Windcube Profilers within the aerospace industry. These instruments detect atmospheric threats such as volcanic ash and pollution, thereby helping to prevent the grounding of aircraft.

From ground level to an altitude of 18km, the profiler distinguishes what lies within the air. Dust particles, volcanic ash or pollution particle hazards are then assessed for air safety. Through its detection process, the innovative product helps to provide a solution to the problem of deciding whether or not flights should be delayed or cancelled.

In a bid to remain environmentally-friendly, the firm has utilised aluminium to create these distinctive, cost-effective cases. The light yet durable material protects the inner fragile components and safeguards them from damage.

The export contracts, worth 100,000, have contributed to a 10-15 per cent increase in exports for Zero.

Plant Manager of Zero Cases UK, Mike Dimmack, comments: "This product is cutting-edge and gives Zero Cases UK Ltd access to diverse markets, with yet another bespoke case design."

Back in 2010, approximately 4000 global flights were cancelled due to the Icelandic volcanic ash alert. Mr Dimmack adds that he is confident that the firm can stay ahead of its competitors. He is certain that the light yet durable cases can help safeguard flights against a similar scenario.

According to Zero Cases, the unique aspect of the casing is that it incorporates a state-of-the-art 'removal rack' that reduces the risk of damage to its inner components.
