Lenze's new range of g500 aluminium geared motors offers a wide output speed range, both for fixed-speed mains supply and variable-speed inverter control. The range covers powers from 60W to 7.5kW with output torques up to 650Nm. As well as helical gearboxes, there are shaft-mounted helical gearboxes with a hollow output shaft, and helical bevel gearboxes with the output at 90 degrees to the input.
The innovative design of the g500 enables both two and three stages of gearing to fit into the same casing without changing external dimensions. Thus in the same mounting space a very wide range of ratios is possible. As an example, with the 210Nm output helical gearbox, two-stage ratios of between 3.3 and 61 and three-stage ratios from 43 to 319 are standard. Add in the option of two-, four- and six-pole motors and the resulting output speed range is from 7-800rpm with standard selections. Machine designers can therefore choose the same size of gearbox for multiple tasks and benefit from the same mounting dimensions.
Where variable-speed operation with inverter drives is required, Lenze offer its family of MF inverter-optimised motors. These are based on standard asynchronous designs modified to run at a set point of 120Hz. By adding a blower, these motors can deliver full rated torque over a speed range from 5 to 120Hz, equivalent to 24:1. Furthermore, the higher speed increases the motor power, allowing for a reduction in frame size. An output of 3.0kW, for example, is achieved using an 80 frame motor.
Design details, material specifications and optimised machining have reduced sizes and weight by up to 40 per cent while achieving efficiencies of 94 per cent or more.
