Atlas Copco has introduced the FCS 220-240, a mobile rapid charging station designed to deliver electricity directly at the point of use. Suitable for temporary installation across construction, industrial and events applications, the system enables operators to quickly deploy high-power charging infrastructure wherever it is needed.
As the adoption of electric vehicles and equipment continues to grow, operators are increasingly challenged by limited access to charging facilities, particularly in off-grid and temporary environments. This is driving demand for solutions that can deliver reliable power without compromising operational efficiency or project timelines.
Tobias Schuster - Divisional Product Marketing Manager Energy Storage Systems, Atlas Copco, explains: "One of the biggest barriers to using electric equipment on site is keeping it running throughout the working day. The FCS 220-240 gives customers a practical way to bring high-power charging directly to their operations, helping them extend runtime, improve productivity and reduce reliance on diesel-powered equipment."
The FCS 220-240 combines a 232 kWh energy storage system with a charging output of up to 220 kW DC and a 50 kW auxiliary AC output, enabling rapid charging of electric vehicles and equipment such as excavators, loaders and trucks. Designed as a towable unit weighing under 3.5 tonnes and featuring a robust, IP55-rated design, the mobile charging station can be transported easily and deployed with minimal set-up, making high-power charging available across construction sites, events and other temporary installations.
A key advantage of the system is its ability to extend the operating time of electric equipment, helping customers achieve a full working day without relying on diesel backup. Customer tests have shown that the FCS 220-240 can deliver up to five additional operating hours per day for a single hour of charging. Multiple connectors enable simultaneous charging of multiple machines, increasing overall site productivity.
The unit also features charge-to-recharge capability, allowing it to be recharged via grid connections, EV infrastructure or generators while continuing to supply power. This ensures continuous operation even in demanding or remote environments.
Optimised control for multi-user environments
The FCS 220-240 is equipped with Atlas Copco's ECO Controller, which provides advanced energy management alongside enhanced operational control. Dynamic Load Management allows the system to balance charging demand with auxiliary power requirements, including up to 50 kW AC output for additional site loads.
The system also features multi-level user access, allowing site managers and rental companies to define permissions for different users, from basic operation to full system configuration. This makes it easier to manage multiple contractors on busy worksites or control access across rental fleets, ensuring safe, efficient and accountable use of the equipment.
Integrated RFID authentication enables secure, on-machine access control, with the option to support payment and user management via OCPP protocols. Remote monitoring and management further allow rental companies to track usage, adjust settings and support customers in real time.
In addition to improving operational efficiency, the FCS 220-240 contributes to more sustainable worksites. Hybrid operation with generators can deliver significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO emissions, while low-noise operation enables use in urban or sensitive environments.
With its combination of mobility, rapid charging performance and intelligent energy management, the FCS 220-240 represents a significant step forward in enabling flexible, low-emission and fully electrified worksites.
