Avago Technologies has completed full Telcordia GR-468-CORE qualification of its next-generation 850nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL). These VCSELs are currently in volume production for use in Avago's higher speed fibre-optic products. III-V technologies such as VCSELs play a key role in assuring supply, reliability and high quality in fibre-optic product manufacturing. Products including 10Gb/s Ethernet, 8Gb/s Fibre Channel transceivers and 6.25 Gb/s Parallel Optics transmitters based on Avago's next-generation VCSELs are sampling now, with commercial release scheduled for later in 2007.
By providing its own 10Gb/s VCSEL source, Avago is in a good position to continue what it describes as its leadership position in the communications and storage industry. According to Tim Gallagher, Avago's vice president of III-V: "Our 10Gb VCSEL technology has been proven for extended temperature ranges to support demanding customer applications and enable denser systems. Furthermore, Avago's integrated fabrication facilities enable cost reductions and our manufacturing strategies ensure assurance of supply."
Avago has R&D capabilities in several III-V technologies, including VCSELs, FP lasers, DFB laser and uncooled EML lasers.
