Beijer Electronics acquires Westermo
Beijer Electronics has announced the strategic acquisition of Westermo, a company that develops and manufactures industrial data communications products such as switches, routers, fibre optic modems and modems for local networks as well as for wireless communication. Westermo has a leading-edge competence in industrial applications.
Göran Sigfridsson, CEO of Beijer Electronics Group, states: "The acquisition of Westermo is a strategically important step in the continuing development of the Beijer Electronics group. Westermo's broad product portfolio and high organic growth complement and strengthen Beijer Electronics' offering within industrial automation and infrastructure applications.
"Data communications will only become an increasingly important part of automation solutions within industry and infrastructure. We estimate that the annual growth rate of industrial communications will continue at the current level of 15-20 per cent, especially within Industrial Ethernet, where Westermo has a strong product offering."
Westermo has an estimated global market share of five per cent, with a strong presence in Europe where the major markets are serviced through wholly-owned subsidiaries.
Westermo will form a new, third business area within Beijer Electronics Group. As of 1 January 2008, Beijer Electronics Group will consist of Westermo Data Communications, Beijer Electronics Automation and Beijer Electronics HMI Products.
