Boron- and formaldehyde-free coolant for ferrous materials

A new addition to Master Chemical's growing stable of boron- and formaldehyde-free coolants is particularly suited to the machining and grinding of cast iron and steel as it provides a high order of corrosion protection. TRIM SC440 is a low foam, semi-synthetic cutting and grinding fluid concentrate whose formulation ensures low levels of foam, not generally seen in products of this type, especially in soft water areas.

This clean-running product provides excellent rust protection that prevents the loading of grinding wheels, ensuring good surface finish and minimal burning. It also keeps machines and the environment clean, even while working on grey iron. As a fine micro-emulsion, the coolant reduces carry-off, cutting total operating costs.

TRIM SC440 will run effectively for long periods without the need for costly additives and can even run at low concentration for high-speed operations where heat removal is a key issue. As well as being free from boron and formaldehyde donors, the product contains no chlorine, sulphur or aggressive biocides. And in common with all metalworking fluids in the Master Chemical range, it is easily recycled or disposed of without special handling or equipment.

During trials, TRIM SC440 was used by a large automotive subcontractor whose existing boron-free coolant was delivering poor sump life. Extensive trials showed the Master Chemical alternative provided a more stable pH and very low bacterial growth, greatly reducing operating costs.

Another manufacturer during trials also confirmed superior parts and machine cleanliness following its adoption of TRIM SC440. It was used for turning large valve parts destined for the oil and gas sector, a process that previously left sticky brown residues on the machine with a competitor's cheaper, high boron content product.
