BS EN 60204-1:2018, new edition of machinery safety standard

EN 60204-1 is one of the key machinery safety standards, being a B-type Harmonised standard for the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. It applies to electrical, electronic and programmable electronic equipment and systems within non-portable machines designed to operate in conjunction with other machinery.

Machine builders, component manufacturers, end users and maintenance engineers will all need the latest edition of EN 60204-1 in order to remain at the forefront of electrical machinery safety.

A number of significant changes have been made to the standard, the most important of which are as follows:

• The addition of requirements covering applications involving power drive systems (PDS)
• The addition of requirements for determining the short circuit current rating of electrical equipment
• Revisions to protective bonding requirements and terminology
• Revisions to Clause 9 that include requirements on safe torque off of PDS, emergency stop and control circuit protection
• Revised symbols for actuators of control devices
• Revised technical documentation requirements

In addition there are general updates to current special national conditions, normative standards and bibliographical references.
