BSI has published BS EN 60335-1:2002+A14:2010, Household and similar electrical appliances. Safety. General requirements, which is identical to IEC 60335-1:2002 Modified.
BS EN 60335-1 is an international standard that covers the general requirements for the safety of electrical appliances for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250V for single-phase appliances and 480V for other appliances.
This standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by people in and around the home. However, it does not take into account the use of appliances by young children or infirm people without supervision, or young children playing with the appliance.
Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are covered by this standard. For example, appliances such as catering equipment, cleaning appliances for industrial and commercial use, and appliances for hairdressers.
Note also that appliances used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft may have to satisfy additional requirements.
BS EN 60335-1:2002+A14:2010, ISBN 978 0 580 68504 0, is available to order from the BSI website in PDF or paper formats, priced at 246 (or 123 for members of BSI).
