Captive bolts suit machine guarding applications

To help machine builders comply with the requirements relating to retained fastenings for fixed guards in EN 953 and the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Specialty Fasteners and Components is launching a new series of captive bolts. A notable feature of these fasteners is that they avoid the problem of jacking associated with some of the simpler, low-cost retained fasteners.

Captive bolts suit machine guarding applications

Designed so as to be simple to install using hand or press tools with an 'impact' or 'squeeze' action, the captive bolts can be used on fixed guards and any other type of guard or panel that may require periodic removal. Specialty Fasteners and Components offers a variety of head styles (eg hex head and cap screw) and materials (including stainless steel) to suit different applications. Some types are installed such that one side of the panel remains completely flush, while low-profile types extend through the panel and require a counterbore in the corresponding frame or other component.

Sizes range from M3 to M10 and customers are encouraged to contact Specialty Fasteners and Components with their application requirements so that the optimum fastener and joint design can be specified. For more information, email [email protected].

Other types of captive fastener available from Specialty Fasteners and Components include quarter-turn fasteners, push-turn fasteners and captive screws.
