Rockwell's TechED EMEA event focuses on digital transformation

Rockwell Automation will host its second annual EMEA technical education and user conference 8-11 October in Egmond aan Zee (Amsterdam), The Netherlands.

Renishaw takes education outreach programme to IMTS 2018

To inspire students to pursue a career in advanced technology, Renishaw is attending the IMTS Smartforce Student Summit from September 10th to 15th 2018 at McCormick Place, Chicago, USA. Renishaw will exhibit to young people, parents and teachers from a dedicated education booth as well as hosting Learning Labs on an adjacent booth. The education programme forms part of Renishaw's larger presence at IMTS 2018, which focusses on automated process control and additive manufacturing.

EEF launches Robotics and Automation training courses

EEF is launching a new course to re-train and up-skill employees covering the knowledge and practical skills involved with robotic and automation engineering. This will make EEF one of the very few providers able to offer the training which will lead to the EAL Level 3 Certificate in Robotics and Automation.

Agenda announced for Profibus, Profinet and IO-Link seminar

A free-to-attend seminar at the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry in October 2018 can be summed up as "˜How to get the best out of Profibus, Profinet and IO-Link.' Opening with a keynote address given by PI Chairman Karsten Schneider covering developments in Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), PROFINET in Process applications, Advanced Physical Layer (APL), OPC-UA and Industry 4.0, the event will address the key practical issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in automated manufacturing and process industry applications, with particular attention being paid to network design, installation and commissioning through to functional safety & cybersecurity, EMC and Industry 4.0.

International co-operation for Industrie 4.0 qualification

Deutsche Messe Technology Academy, Hanover and Phoenix Contact, Blomberg, have agreed on actively cooperating on employee qualification. Their aim is to teach the necessary skills and knowledge for the digital transformation. When signing the agreement, Technology Academy's CEO Thomas Rilke emphasised the importance of qualified workers for the development or establishment of industrial sites: "Only those who are ready to share their knowledge will benefit from sustainable success. Technologies for the digital transformation can only be applied successfully if their potential is clear to companies and their employees. This is why at the Industry Academies, both young workers and industry experts participate in application-oriented training programs."

TM Robotics to show robot-plus-feeder pick-and-place system

At PPMA 2018, in conjunction with UK distributor RARUK Automation, TM Robotics will demonstrate Toshiba Machine's THL700 SCARA robot. The robot will operate in collaboration with the Flexibowl feeding system to exhibit a fully automated pick-and-place system. The demonstration will be held at the RARUK Automation stand, E20 from 25 to 27 September 2018.

Renishaw work experience inspires future apprentices

After several years of hosting its popular engineering work experience programme, Gloucestershire-based engineering technologies company Renishaw has seen an increase in applications for its engineering apprenticeship schemes. In summer 2018, the company hosted its work experience weeks for a new cohort of 117 students aged 15 to 17.

Yokogawa signs global reseller license agreement with Chevron

Yokogawa Electric Corporation is entering into a strategic agreement with Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to resell PETRO, Chevron's proprietary petroleum supply chain planning software. The application supports decision-making regarding feedstock selection, operations parameters, and product mix optimisation, as well as future scenario analysis, at a multi-plant level. Yokogawa's wholly-owned subsidiary, KBC, will manage the PETRO business with Chevron.

3D Systems: additive and subtractive manufacturing at AMB 2018

3D Systems will feature its most advanced digital manufacturing products for metalworking at AMB 2018, including 3D printers, software, and materials. The company's ProX DMP 320 will be on display - a high-performance metal additive manufacturing system with a build volume of 275 × 275 × 420mm. Considered as the heavy-duty alternative to traditional metal manufacturing processes, this Direct Metal Printing (DMP) device produces consistent, very dense metal parts with reduced waste, shorter set-up times and higher throughput.
