Next-day custom enclosure samples keep projects on schedule

The popularity of Spelsberg UK's next-day sample service is continuing to grow, 12 months after it was launched. By delivering samples for custom enclosure designs with a 24-hour turnaround, customers are able to compress their project times while also helping to ensure optimum designs. Chris Lloyd, Managing Director, explains how Spelsberg is achieving such a fast turnaround: "One of the biggest issues on most engineering projects is time management: keeping the work moving on, avoiding delays and their almost inevitable knock-on effects. Aware that a series of small delays can add up over the course of a project and result in the final deadline being missed, about a year ago we assessed the possibility of offering next-day delivery of sample custom electrical enclosures.

HIMA appoints Stefan Basenach as Process business unit head

HIMA Paul Hildebrandt has appointed Stefan Basenach as head of the new Process business unit, effective 1 May 2017. With the creation of a separate business unit for the process industry, safety expert HIMA aims to focus their business strategy on stronger global growth and closer customer contact. An international project team will facilitate access to new markets and intensify cooperation with new and existing customers.

Hylec's success prompts move to expanded facilities

Hylec-APL is moving to new expanded facilities, thanks to experiencing rapid sales growth in both the electrical and electronic markets. The company will be remaining in Wellingborough but will move into new offices and a much larger warehouse on June 26, and has also announced capital investment in production machinery to enable it to fulfil both current and projected future demand.

Remote assistance with internet-connected "˜smart' glasses

Henkel and automobile giant PSA have worked together on an innovative form of remote assistance. For the first time Henkel experts are enabled to quickly and accurately diagnose problems anywhere in any PSA production operation, without having to step outside their own office. The implementation of the new remote service system will enable PSA & Henkel to increase efficiency and react much more quickly to production glitches. Both companies will share the podium at Surcar 2017, the international meeting on automotive body finishing taking place in Cannes, France, on June 29-30.

NI and PTC collaborate to bring IoT education to the classroom

NI has announced a new Internet of Things (IoT) teaching approach with a suite of advanced tools. Professors and students can take advantage of these teaching tools, which consist of the myRIO Student Embedded Device, LabVIEW toolkits, PTC's ThingWorx software and projects created by Tufts University, to build real-world IoT applications in the classroom.

JLR reaffirms continuation of 24-year relationship with Optimas

Optimas Solutions has formalised a continuation to its contract with Jaguar Land Rover for fastener supply to the company's Castle Bromwich and Solihull manufacturing facilities. The announcement comes as JLR continues to invest in its UK manufacturing having shown strong growth in the domestic and export markets over recent years. Sensor Technology appoints distributors for China and Portugal

A successful week at the Hanover Fair has advanced plans to increase exports to China for UK specialist torque sensor manufacturer Sensor Technology Ltd. The company has always exported and, over the last few years, has had a definite strategy of building up its export business significantly. Sales Manager Mark Ingham explains: "It is unrealistic these days to be a manufacturer and not address the world market. Trade is global and we have got to be competitive in every region. We take stands at international exhibitions like Hanover partly to meet new potential new users, but also to find possible new overseas distributors."
