"˜Skinny & Strong' low-index, high-pressure compression springs

The Lee Spring catalogue has always offered springs with relatively high spring rates or workable (maximum) loads. Often, however, the standard outside diameters were too wide to fit within the intended application assembly requirements, or the lengths too long and bulky. Now Lee Spring has introduced "˜Skinny & Strong' low-index, high-pressure compression springs. This new firm, slender spring design offers a high spring rate in a smaller compression spring diameter, without sacrificing any of the pressure and is well suited for operation in confined spaces.

Spindle bearings for high-speed, high-precision machine tools

At EMO 2019 NSK presented its new Robustride cylindrical roller bearings for the spindle drives of high-speed, high-precision machine tools. These advanced bearings feature an optimised cage that facilitates more even lubricant distribution, which in turn reduces bearing wear, especially under high loads. Also launched at the show were NSK's Robust angular contact ball bearings with improved accuracy class.

Schaeffler M-series bearings improve spindle robustness

The performance capability and productivity of machine tools are significantly defined by the main spindle, whereas the suitability for high speeds, rigidity and robustness against operational influences are defined by the spindle bearing. Important development objectives for the M-series FAG spindle bearings in X-life quality included an internal design with particularly optimised friction behaviour and a high tolerance towards rapidly changing thermal operating conditions such as those that frequently occur in motor spindles. The optimised design greatly reduces the rise in bearing preload caused by influencing factors such as interference between the bore and the bearing, high speeds, and large temperature gradients between the shaft and housing.

Schaeffler SpindleSense reduces downtime, increases utilisation

The main spindle is crucial to the performance capability of the complete machine tool. It is at the heart of the machine and largely defines the achievable cutting capacity, surface quality, and precision. In turn, the spindle bearing support is one of the most heavily loaded components because it must transmit machining forces precisely at very high speeds for long periods of time and the risk of collisions can never be ruled out.
