CE Marking and the need for an EU Authorised Representative

The Workshop Programme at MachineBuilding.Live 2024 at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham, was expanded to include a series of Machinery Safety Masterclass talks. Here, Derek Coulson, director of Hold Tech Files, looks at CE Marking and the need for an EU Authorised Representative.

CE Marking and the need for an EU Authorised Representative

In July 2021 the EU introduced Regulation 2019/1020 which requires anyone outside of the EU supplying CE marked equipment into the EU to have the technical file held by an importer or a fulfilment centre. If neither of these is possible, an EU Authorised Representative is required to hold the Technical File and work in conjunction with the Authorities on any issues.

Without an EU AR, Customs may stop machinery entering the EU or Safety Authorities may prevent use, causing delays and expense.

This video provides an introduction to the Regulation 2019/1020 and looks at the need for an EU Authorised Representative, if supplying the EU with CE marked products. Derek explains how to comply with the Regulation 2019/1020, the minimum requirements for CE Marking, and where to go for more information.
