Compressed air optimisation is the subject for IMechE seminar

At an upcoming seminar hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Atlas Copco Compressors will present the latest thinking on the techniques and technologies businesses can use to optimise their compressed air networks and improve energy efficiency. The seminar, entitled Making the energy crisis work for you: Reducing fuel costs in processing, takes place on 27th September at the IMechE's headquarters in London, with a presentation being given by Peter Lattaway, Key Accounts and Sales Engineer with Atlas Copco, himself a Chartered Engineer and member of the IMechE. Anyone interested in attending can book via the events page on the IMechE's website at www.imeche.org/events.

Compressed air optimisation is the subject for IMechE seminar

With compressed air use accounting for over 10 per cent of the total power consumed by UK industry annually and 75 per cent of total compressor lifecycle costs relating to energy, there is significant potential for businesses to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions by optimising their compressed air networks. Maintenance is also an important factor, with many systems wasting up to 30 per cent of compressed air through leaks, misapplication and poor control.

In his presentation, Peter Lattaway will demonstrate how a combination of measures and technologies can be used to completely optimise a compressed air network, boost efficiency and achieve significant energy cost savings in the process. A number of areas will be highlighted, including energy recovery, demand assessment, core technology selection, efficient air treatment, variable speed drive technology and control and optimisation systems.

Atlas Copco will also use the presentation to highlight the wider benefits of using energy saving compressor technology and the important role manufacturers, end users, and industry as a whole can play in informing and educating compressed air users about its energy savings potential.
