Cosvic lines up productivity improvements with SMC

Cosvic designs, plans and manufactures machines and modules for assembly process automation in all major industrial sectors from car components to furniture accessory processing. The company prides itself on listening to its customers, understanding their needs and delivering innovative, customised products by using the best technical expertise and components.

Since its formation in 1995, Cosvic has called on SMC's team of specialist engineers to work in partnership on providing custom-made components that save energy, improve productivity and deliver cost savings.

One project that called on SMC's technical expertise was Cosvic's development of a 24m-long assembly line to produce and test brushless motors. The fully automotive "smart' machine comprises three interconnected lines and 23 stations, with the capability of assembling up to 400 engines an hour.

The flexibility of this high-tech system is its ability to produce motors of varying sizes without halting production, thanks to a barcode reader and the fact that the machine does not need to be empty when you change components.

In order to deliver the required performance levels, Cosvic's engineers needed the freedom to design a cutting-edge serial interface valve control system, which they were able to achieve by tapping into SMC's family of Serial Interface valve manifolds, supported by DeviceNet fieldbus technology. This brought greater and centralised control, flexibility of usage and important savings in terms of manpower.

Cosvic's founder, Fabrizio Colombo says: "We have enjoyed a long and productive collaboration with SMC, which is one of our most trusted partners. As technology has advanced and so have our demands, SMC has always been one step ahead and able to meet our requirements, whether that's supplying us with valves, ionisers or an ALDS air leakage diagnostic system. Our relationship with the SMC technicians is great and they always deliver on time."

SMC has been voted for three consecutive years as one of the most innovative global companies by business magazine, Forbes. The company prides itself on working closely with its customers and through its technical support structure is able to provide products that improve productivity and reduce overall production costs.

This is highlighted with the close working relationship with Cosvic. Fabrizio Colombo adds: "To have achieved our quantum leap in terms of growth and reputation, we have been very careful to only work in partnership with the best, like-minded companies that can make a real difference to our customers' needs. SMC is a great example of a partner that can deliver bespoke solutions that add real value to our business."
