The eighth SPE Automotive Composites Conference & Exhibition will take place in the Detroit area. This is a two-day conference and exhibition where manufacturers will discuss new developments in automotive composites.
SPE's Automotive Division is dedicated to educating, promoting, recognising and communicating technical accomplishments for all phases of new automotive plastics and plastic-based composite developments in the transportation industry, including: applications, materials, processing, equipment, tooling and design.
CRP Technology will discuss its latest high-tech RP and RM application, produced using laser sintering technology and Windform materials, on a 125GP Honda racing motorcycle. Stewart Davis, CRP USA Director of Operation, will present a paper Rapid Manufacturing and continued development of highly stressed fibre-reinforced plastic parts: Motorbike Dash Assembly made by Windform XT and SLS Technology.
It describes the benefits of using Windform material and rapid manufacturing technology to produce a special dashboard to mount the motorbike's electronic system developed by CRP Racing (the racing department of CRP Technology). This dashboard had to be light and stiff, with the new design for the 2008 season being modified to allow for easy replacement when damaged during a crash, thereby helping to save time and money. CRP Technology, with its racing department, works to remain an example of excellence in the motorsports industry where rapid manufacturing applications are pushed to the limit in testing and on racetracks all over the world.
