Custom protective cases designed and manufactured in three weeks

Zero Cases (UK) Limited has designed, manufactured and delivered super-light protective cases to meet a customer's very tight timescale.

Custom protective cases designed and manufactured in three weeks

Zero Cases (UK) Limited used all of its 35 years of case-making expertise to serve a new customer that requested super-light cases with a very short lead time for carrying valuable aircraft servicing-related parts.

Mike Dimmack, UK Plant Manager, explains: "We were given the challenge of building a case which had to be very light, robust and able to meet Didsbury Engineering's aerospace-related demands. The dimensions were 1.5m x 1.1m x 0.85m and the case, made of aluminium, needed to be strong, durable, and the internal layout was specifically designed to meet the industry sector leading product to be transported."

Mr Dimmack said that Zero Cases' innovative design resulted in a case with minimal joints, parts and fittings in order to reduce the weight and meet the design scope. The case was developed by enhancing an existing design, rolling the sheet aluminium and extending the design around the products the case would be protecting.

Mark Hinchliffe, a Design Engineer at Didsbury Engineering Co Ltd, expressed the companies delight with the cases: "I have been speaking to Clive Scott, our Technical Director, and he is impressed with the cases that Zero UK have supplied. A lot of our equipment is supplied in flight cases with CNC foam inserts and it would be interesting to find out what other options Zero Cases UK can offer us."

Zero Cases (UK) was given three weeks to design, manufacture and ship the cases. Work on the first five cases started in the middle of April 2012 and, by the middle of the third week in May 2012, they had been delivered to the customer. Another five cases have now been made and delivered.

Demand for customised cases has become so important to Zero Cases (UK) that the company has been able to develop new product lines based on such requirements. Mr Dimmack says that the requirement for non-standard products has also enabled the company to help weather the UK's current economic storm.

Zero Cases (UK) Ltd is the UK arm of Zero Manufacturing, Inc, which is an American firm. The standard UK product range starts with small vanity-type cases, 2000 series, deep drawn (DC) cases, Val Ann 700 series and includes modular cases. The larger modular cases, which provide a viable bespoke alternative to an ISO shipping container, are extremely versatile and are used to transport such diverse products as quad bikes or remote-controlled vehicles.

The appropriate Zero Cases (UK) Ltd case, can be used to transport very small parts, marine, aircraft or aerospace-related parts, engines, turbines and various other products that have some fragility and need to be shipped safely. The cases provide cost-effective protection to meet customers' needs.
