Diesel exhaust opacity meter also suits smoke emissions testing
Telonic Instruments is introducing the OM1 Opacity Meter for measuring smoke emissions from diesel engines and similar applications. Designed and manufactured in the UK, the OM1 is a high-quality, affordable, handheld instrument that measures the opacity of diesel smoke by means of a green LED that is pulsed through the smoke at a frequency of 625Hz. The battery-powered diesel engine smoke meter can be used in conjunction with Celesco emitter/detector heads from the 107 or 300 range. Depending on the head used, the OM1 is suitable for end-of-line or in-line measurements. The photodetector features an integral amplifier and signals are transmitted to the meter via a screened multicore cable.
Opacity and smoke density are displayed on the easy-to-read LCD in real time, together with peak values that can be reset by user. Digital signal processing ensures accuracy and low drift. The controls are microprocessor-based and include auto-calibration and self-test functions. Three recorder outputs cater for datalogging requirements, with results recorded and plotted on a laptop or PC.
Powered by four AA-size rechargeable batteries, this innovative meter measures just 192 x 110 x 60mm and weighs 700g, so it is truly portable. Further features include a 'dirty optics' warning, remote control, 0.1 per cent resolution and logging software.
Although primarily designed for diesel emission measurements, this versatile instrument can also be used for many other smoke emission tests and measurements.
