Dover Motion's direct drive linear stage from Heason Technology

Dover Motion's recently announced XMG series miniature micropositioning stages feature a new cutting-edge linear motor design that delivers up to five times more force and twice the force density when compared to similar competitive products. Available in the UK from Heason Technology, the XMG is well placed for demanding applications that demand rapid speeds and smooth motion with consistent and stable velocity or force characteristics - especially where a small form factor is essential. These higher force characteristics translate into much improved throughput capability with benefits that include more moves-per-minute for part positioning, faster step & scan cycles, increased focussing rates and faster frame capture times.

Based on Dover's well-proven Mini-MAG (MMG) series, the XMG is available in base materials of steel or anodised aluminium. With its stiff cross-roller bearing arrangement and powerful 100 per cent cog-free motor, travel range options are 25, 50, 100 and 150mm. The compact stage is approximately 92mm wide yet is capable of payloads up to 10kg or more. Acceleration and velocity ratings are load and feedback dependent but as an example the 50mm stroke stage is capable of 14g acceleration and maximum velocity can be up to 2m/sec. The repeatability performance across the range is up to 0.4 microns with overall TIR accuracy below 12 microns for the 150mm travel stage (0.1 micron encoder). Linear encoder feedback options are available in analogue or digital formats with resolution from 1 to 0.001 microns.

The modular miniature linear stages are easily combined for XY or XYZ geometries and include externally adjustable limit and home sensors. Optional Z-axis counterbalance mechanics are available in compressed air or a newly developed magnetic design. Thanks to its superior force density rating, the XMG has an excellent vertical load rating of 500g without needing a counterbalance.

Dover Motion's range includes linear and rotary positioning stages for medium to ultra-high-precision grades with linear motor or rotary servomotor drive systems and both air and mechanical bearing technologies. Heason Technology works closely with Dover Motion and other global distribution partners to provide a comprehensive range of first-class motion control components For more information about the XMG series miniature micropositioning stages please visit www.heason.com.
