E-stop switches feature three-way safe-break action

Live Electronics is now supplying two new Idec emergency stop switches incorporating an innovative safe-break action. The XA (16mm diameter mounting) and XW (22mm diameter mounting) ranges meet international safety standards ISO 13850 and EN 60947-5-5.

LED illuminated versions with replaceable 24V AC/DC LEDs are offered for XA in 29mm and 40mm mushroom head styles, and XW has 40mm and 60mm mushroom head options. Push-turn and push-pull reset actions are built-in on both ranges complying with US and European standards to reduce operator errors.

These new XA/XW ranges employ a safe-break action to ensure the normally-closed contacts are forced open even if the operator knob is broken, if the contact block is removed, or if the contacts are welded closed. The three safe-break failure modes together are claimed to be a unique feature offered by the Idec switches.

Further safety aspects include a contact assembly with up to four contacts in a compact package with XA claimed to be the first 16mm E-Stop with four contacts and with a panel depth of only 27.9mm. The 48.7mm panel depth of the XW is also said to make it the worlds shortest four-contact 22mm diameter E-Stop. PCB or solder tab termination styles are available on both models, with XW models also having a screw terminal option. Both devices are suitable for EN 954-1 safety category 4 applications and rear-of-panel mounting.

Claire Childs, Live Electronics MD, comments: "Live Electronics keeps its promise to introduce leading quality products to our range. These E-Stop additions from Idec provide customers with a world first from a safety-driven company. Further releases soon."
