Eaton's new HP30 hydraulic motor offers improved efficiency

Eaton is launching its new HP 30 Disc Valve Motor for both closed circuit and open circuit hydraulic applications. It has been designed to offer an excellent balance of high pressure and high flow, together with features that unlock enhanced customer value.

With a displacement range of 344 to 677cm3/r and a torque of up to 2900Nm, the motors are designed for a pressure level of 310bar continuous and 345bar intermittent. The maximum flow rate is 265 l/min.

The HP 30 has a very compact envelope and is claimed to have a class-leading starting torque efficiency, which often enables a smaller motor to be specified. With these characteristics the HP 30 was designed considering various scenarios of demanding hydraulic drives applications like winches, mobile construction machinery, conveyors and drilling equipment.

In addition, the HP 30 motor features two-speed capability. It is able to shift, on the fly, smoothly between high-torque, low-speed and high-speed, low-torque modes under dynamic loading. This offers potential savings by simplifying the drivetrain and opens up other new applications.

The option of a spring-applied hydraulic brake allows for load holding without the need for continuous hydraulic power. The versatility of the HP 30 is also demonstrated by the fact that it offers series circuit capability, and that it can be equally employed in closed- or open-circuit applications. An optional feature is ATEX certification, enabling it to eb used in potentially explosive environments such as mining or oil and gas platforms.

Regardless of what application the HP 30 motor is used for, the customer will benefit from its energy efficiency. John Taylor, EMEA Product Manager at Eaton, comments: "The HP 30 is designed from scratch with the goal of high power, perfect dynamics and maximum efficiency."

Low internal pressure loss results in less heat generation, less energy wastage, and helps improve the overall efficiency of the system. Reducing the cooling requirement could offer weight and space savings. Together with high starting torque, these features are said to enable the HP 30 to deliver best-in-class performance.

According to Eaton, the HP 30 has evoked great interest since it was first released. With the motor's new capability to operate in open circuit applications, and with additional features, Eaton expects to convince even more customers of the exceptional value HP 30 offers. Taylor adds: "With its high power capability and flexibility, we expect many customers to switch to HP 30, either from competitive products or from competitive technologies, such as small radial piston motors."

The HP 30 expands the already extensive Char-Lynn high-speed, low-torque Geroler motor series. Eaton says it has the broadest range of Gerotor and Geroler motors available in the market, and is the largest supplier of this technology globally.
