Efficient material flow in the production of tissue paper

In a Eurovast plant in Pescia (Italy), the VarioFlow plus chain conveyor system from Bosch Rexroth ensures efficient material flow in production, reduces maintenance and increases reliability.

Efficient material flow in the production of tissue paper

Eurovast is a leading company in the production of tissue paper. The company, which is represented on the market with the brands Fior di Carta Lifestyle, Suprema, Buffalo, Bravo and By Fior di Carta Lifestyle, decided to work with Bosch Rexroth to optimise its production facilities. The goal was to implement a highly automated solution that enables continuous production with reduced machine downtimes.

Saverio Capiferri, Operations Manager at Eurovast, explains that the production process is based on an end-to-end automation line that is monitored by operators without direct manual intervention. The machine is first loaded with a huge roll of base paper. This is followed by a fully automatic process, which ends with the palletising of the end products.

The reliability of the machines is essential for continuous production in 24-hour operation. The process is divided into three main phases: unwinding the rolls and feeding the primary and secondary packaging.

Rexroth technology in use

Bosch Rexroth supplied an advanced material flow solution to the Pescia production site. The modular VarioFlow plus chain conveyor system allows the paper rolls and packaging units to be transported efficiently between the various production steps. Thanks to a specially developed software solution, the material flow can be adapted as required, which ensures maximum flexibility and optimization of the work processes.

One of the most innovative aspects of the conveyor system is that it can be adapted to complex production processes. The paper rolls can thus be fed to different packaging machines as required. The material flow between the various processing phases is ensured at all times.

Benefits of the chosen solution

The Rexroth solution at Eurovast offers many benefits:

Reliability: Reduced downtimes and reliable continuous production

Less maintenance: In spite of the large amounts of dust common in the paper industry, the conveyor system is less susceptible to wear.

Energy efficiency: By reducing friction and optimising the number of drives used, energy consumption was significantly reduced.

According to Simone Ghilarducci, project manager of Eurovast, the decision to use the VarioFlow plus chain conveyor proved to be the strategically best choice. By reducing wear and optimising the number of transport sections with their own drive, operating costs were reduced and overall efficiency improved.

Working together to overcome new challenges

The positive experience with Bosch Rexroth has encouraged Eurovast to continue this cooperation for future projects.

"We would like to continue to work with Bosch in the field of automation," says Capiferri.
