EMKA acquires plant for stainless steel investment castings
The EMKA Group has purchased a production site for investment casting including a hall area of 10,000 m2 in the Serbian town of Mionica. In the future, the EMKA Group will provide all 46 countries in which the company is represented with the high-quality investment castings from its new facility in Serbia. The monies invested for this new EMKA production site is around 5 million EUR. With this acquisition, EMKA sets a clear sign for the established production in approved European standards and accelerates the time of delivery to the European markets to only 2-3 days.
The previous owner of the investment casting factory is the Cimos Group, a Slovenian company. It has specialised in production processes for the automotive industry since 1972 and is currently undergoing restructuring. EMKA will retain the current staff of 125. Furthermore, EMKA will assume all systems required for the production of stainless steel investment casting at temperatures up to 1500degC, including mechanical finishing equipment. The property in Mionica measures 56,000m2 and is located 90km southwest of Belgrade.
EMKA will utilise the newly gained production capacities to manufacture investment casting components for its range of locks and hinges. However, more importantly, all custom-made designs will comply with European quality standards. Many companies have expressed dissatisfaction with investment casting components made in Asia. This is where EMKA sees a large demand in the technologically complex area of investment casting within Europe and beyond. Shipping goods from China by sea takes up to 8 weeks. Finished products from the investment casting factory in Serbia can be transported on the European highway system and reach the customer within 2-3 days.
