EN 954-1 harmonised to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

In this article EN 954-1 extension confirmed as two years we reported that the EN 954-1 presumption of conformity to the Machinery Directive has been extended to 31 December 2011. However, at that time the list of standards harmonised to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC did not include EN 954-1.

EN 954-1 harmonised to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

This situation has now been resolved with the publication of a Commission communication in the framework of the implementation of the Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on machinery, and amending Directive 95/16/EC (recast), published in the Official Journal of the European Union, reference 2009/C 321/09, 29 December 2009 (700kB PDF). This states that 'The date of cessation of presumption of conformity of the superseded standard, initially fixed on 28.12.2009, has been postponed for two years' and the date of cessation of presumption of conformity for EN 954-1:1996 is stated as being 31 December 2011. Note that EN ISO 13849-1:2008 remains harmonised to the Machinery Directive despite the changes relating to EN 954-1.
