Eng-Weld celebrates longstanding relationship with ESAB
September 2010 saw Eng-Weld (Engineering and Welding Supplies) marking its 50th anniversary in business, which provided an opportunity to reflect on its relationship with ESAB as a key supplier.
Founded in 1960 by the current Chairman, Alf Robinson*, Eng-Weld has its headquarters in Kingston-upon-Hull and has grown to the point where it is now claimed to be the UK's biggest distributor of welding equipment, power tools, hand tools, consumables and industrial gases, with bases across the Midlands and North of England. These cover nine locations from Smethwick across to Scunthorpe, while there are also three depots at Middlesbrough, Leicester and Gateshead, the premises of Energas, a sister company that supplies high-pressure industrial gases to clients across the north.
As well as its general fabrication and steel industry clients, Eng-Weld supplies the petrochemical, agricultural, food, and ship repair industries.
Martin Wright, the General Sales Manager (Equipment) for Eng-Weld, comments: "We have 220 employees across the group, many who have been with the company in excess of 10 years, while the longest-serving employee has been with the company 42 years and - like the founder, Alf Robinson - can remember working with ESAB back in the sixties.
"It has been a generally very good and mutually beneficial working relationship with ESAB, charting the ups and downs of the industry. ESAB is our biggest supplier and we sell a huge amount of the company's equipment and consumables across our nine Depots. The Caddy Mig, for instance, is one of the products ESAB has recently launched and that is selling well for us."
Eng-Weld is registered to the internationally recognised BS EN ISO 9001:2000 standard, independently audited by Bureau Veritas. This enables the company to demonstrate a high commitment to service and product quality. It also offers full service and spares backup, with calibration of welding plant to BS 7570:2000, Code of practice for validation of arc welding equipment , (ISO 9000) requirements.
