ESAB is sponsoring the prestigious 2012 ShipWeld competition, which identifies the UK's outstanding young welding apprentices. The competition, now into its fourth year, will comprise inter-yard events around the UK, with prizes presented by ESAB for the apprentice welders placed first and second. The winner and runner-up from each inter-yard competition will go through to participate in the grand final, which this year is taking place at BAE Systems Surface Ships, Portsmouth, from 9-11 October 2012.

The winner for 2011, which holds the ESAB Challenge Cup, is Babcock International Group, Appledore.
As sponsor of the competition, ESAB will supply all the welding machines and consumables for use at the final. The company's latest MIG/MAG/MMA inverter-based welding machines will be used, along with ESAB OK Tubrod 15.14 and electrodes.
