Ethernet controller brings control devices into line

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has equipped the CP 343-1 Lean communications processor for the Simatic S7-300 controllers with Ertec-200 Ethernet controllers. The controllers can now be connected, via two ports on the processor, in one line without an additional Ethernet switch. The CP 343-1 Lean works at data rates of up to 100 megabits/second in multi-protocol mode, for instance with Profinet-IO, TCP/IP and UDP protocols.

The communications processor comes equipped with two industry-standard RJ45 sockets and handles Industrial Ethernet data traffic independently at 10 or 100 megabits/second. It features office communications services such as TCP/IP and UDP as well as communications services for automation, such as PG/OP-, S7-, S5-compatible and Profinet-IO device communications. The CP 343-1 Lean, with a unique Ethernet address, can be commissioned and programmed remotely via Industrial Ethernet. It can be integrated into network management via SNMP.
