EU Symposium: Safety of control systems for machinery

CEN, CENELEC, and the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry are jointly organising a symposium, Safety of control systems for machinery, which has been instigated in the light of the controversies surrounding the transition from EN 954 to EN ISO 13849. The event, which is free to attend, is provisionally scheduled to take place on 9 September 2010 at the Albert Borschette Conference Centre in Brussels (to be confirmed). English will be used for the symposium, with no simultaneous translations.

EU Symposium: Safety of control systems for machinery

Starting with an introduction to the existing functional safety standards and recommendations for their practical application, the symposium is intended to be a forum for dialogue between standard writers and standard users. Following a presentation of three examples for different categories of machinery, attendees will be invited to raise principle problems that they have identified while applying the standard(s). During the final discussion these problems will be addressed and possible solutions to overcoming them will be discussed.

Participants are expected to include machine builders, system integrators, people who modify machinery, and manufacturers of safety components. In addition, there will be representatives from EU Member States, health and safety institutions and Notified Bodies, as well as members of relevant technical committees from CEN and CENELEC.

Follow the first link to download a copy of the invitation (70kB PDF) and the second link to download a registration form (35kB .doc) - but note that space is restricted, so registrations will be processed on a 'first come, first served' basis.
