Free Designers' Guide to Springs and Pressings
Southern Springs & Pressings is promoting its publication Springs & Pressings, A Designers' Guide, which is packed with useful information that will help designers select the right standard component for an application or, if none is suitable, design bespoke components.
The first section is devoted to wire components and covers everything from materials and heat treatment through to compression, tension and torsion springs. Design formulae are included and there is advice on subjects such as conical compression and nested springs. In addition, there is an explanation of the factors affecting the fatigue performance of helically wound springs.
Flat strip components are covered in Section 2. Contents include a discussion of alternative materials, design guidance for flat strip components and information about design calculations and computer-aided engineering tools such as FEA (finite element analysis). Finally, there is a useful explanation of the different types of tooling for producing flat strip components and advice on corrosion protection.
