Renold Gears has installed a 1.8 million, state-of-the-art Burkhardt + Weber machining centre at its factory in Rochdale, to increase production of gear cases in the mid to large gear unit market.
The new, high-precision machining centre, supplied by Geo Kingsbury, will speed up in-house production as a result of reduced set-up and run times and enable the company to meet steady growth for its products in this sector. The new Burkhardt + Weber MCX 1400, described by Renold as the most accurate machining centre on the market, is capable of meeting the highest industry standard tolerances.
It has a work range of 3.2m on the X axis, 2.2m on the Y axis and 2.1m on the Z axis. It features such things as fast tool management robotics, storage of up to 172 tools, twin pallets of 1,600mm × 1,600mm, and a workpiece swing diameter of 3200mm. It will enable the company to manufacture all custom products in house, enhance quality management, reduce lead times and increase production.
Following delivery in November, the new machining centre is now installed and in production at Renold Gears' factory. Visit renold.com to learn more.
