Getting the best out of hub and shaft clamping

ETP-HYLOC promises high torque and excellent concentricity

Getting the best out of hub and shaft clamping

If your application requires reliable clamping of hubs and shafts, while simultaneously delivering high torque and maintaining excellent concentricity, the ETP-HYLOC product is worth consideration, says UK distributor ABSSAC, which states that the product "is modernising the way in which hubs and shaft are connected within mechanical systems".

Offering repeatable clamping, the ETP-HYLOC is a hydromechanical joint, which consists of a double-walled steel sleeve, which encloses a conical moveable piston. Integral to the mounting flange there are three threaded connections, "making installation quick and easy". Mounting and dismantling is carried out with the aid of a hydraulic pump with three removable hoses.

Speed of installation

One of the key advantages of the ETP-HYLOC is said to be the speed in which the unit can be installed and removed, especially when compared to the mechanical equivalent. "The ETP-HYLOC faithfully delivers great concentricity, as well as being able to work under high radial loads," comments ABSSAC, "with a robust design, which is ideally suited to work in challenging and heavy environments, such as steel rolling mills, process industry etc."

Connection couldn’t be easier, it adds. When in position, the internal piston uses the hydraulic pressure from the pump, to activate and expand a double-walled sleeve. The sleeve expands uniformly against shaft and hub and forms a rigid joint. With the ETP HYLOC series, the maximum number of mountings can be up to 2000 times, making it particularly suited to applications where hub and shafts require frequent clamping and finite adjustment.

Ease of movement

When dismantling, the piston is moved in the opposite direction by hydraulic pressure and the joint will loosen. A small amount of oil will be taken via spiral tracks in the piston between the surfaces, in this way making it easier for the piston to move. The product is ideally suited to connect hubs and shafts between 50mm and 220 mm in diameter. Concentric run out can be as little as ≤ 0,02 mm, it is stated.

"Additionally, full customisation of the standard product is available, as well as models for shaft greater than 220 mm, which can also be offered on request." For extreme high torque applications, the contact surfaces of ETP-HYLOC (sizes ≥100 mm) can be applied with ETP-HFC, a high friction coating.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • High transmittable torque, which can be varied by changing the mounting pressure
  • Fast mounting/dismantling also in tight spaces. By using a portable hydraulic pump, the installation or dismantling time is reduced to an absolute minimum
  • Radial or axial pressurising of the hub or shaft is possible
  • Incremental adjustments of the hub can be made when mounting
  • Good concentricity, even after several mountings
  • High radial load capacity.
