GT85 PTFE-based spray simplifies maintenance

GT85 PTFE-based spray is remarkably versatile, being a lubricant, penetrant and water displacer. This article highlights some of the many uses to which it can be put.

GT85 PTFE-based spray simplifies maintenance

GT85 is described as professional spray maintenance and is a PTFE-based lubricant, penetrant and water dispersant. And although you may be more familiar with other brands of maintenance sprays, remember that GT85 has both MoD and NATO approval numbers. According to the company behind GT85 (GT 85 Ltd), the PTFE (often referred to as Teflon) content means that the spray acts as a long-lasting coating that does not drip off, evaporate or build up sticky deposits that attract dirt and grit, leading to wear.

Mechanical equipment

With a strong heritage in the machinery and engineering markets, GT85 is available in 200ml and 400ml aerosol cans, as well as a one-litre non-pressurised Pump Pack. GT85 is said to be suitable for use as a penetrating spray on all industrial and mechanical equipment, garden equipment, around the home, office, janitorial usage, cars, cycles, locks, safes, security doors and grilles, plant and machinery, vehicles and in engineering workshops.

Industrial and engineering

Not only is GT85 a powerful penetrating spray, but it also acts as a corrosion protective spray, dry film lubricant for precision parts, contact cleaner and lubricant (it is excellent for potentiometers, helping to eliminate electrical noise), water displacer, dielectric spray, high-temperature light lubricant, and a lubricant for assembly and packing.

Around the workshop

GT85 will loosen seized and rusted parts, dissolve and clean gunk, and it can be used as an excellent drilling and tapping lubricant. The PTFE prevents seizing at high temperatures, so GT85 can replace common workshop essentials with one handy product, thereby reducing inventory and wastage.

Machinery, industrial vehicles/cars/motorcycles/boating

In these applications GT85 can provide light lubrication and corrosion protection for moving parts, electrical connectors/switches and battery contacts. It is also safe on plastics and paint, leaving a lasting shine. Being safe on rubber means that GT85 is also suitable for cleaning and lubricating O-rings, gaskets, links and chains.

Cycling

According to the supplier, GT85 is the UK's most popular cycle maintenance spray ever! It can be used on cables, clips, seized fixings and bolts; it will also degrease chains and links. If a cycle is prepared with GT85 prior to a road or trail ride, the dirt is said to just wash away afterwards. The clean-up can then be finished with a further application of GT85 to protect parts from rust. And in case you are concerned about the environment, GT85 is ozone-friendly and non-carcinogenic.

PTFE-based grease

A sister product to GT85, SG85 is a clean, non-staining white grease for areas where long-term and clean greasing is required. It is suitable for plastic contact parts as well as metal, and is especially helpful where clothing or hands could come into contact with the grease. If touched, SG white grease simply washes away with soap and water, yet it stays put on the item treated.

Major users of GT85 include Virgin Airlines, BT, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Plessey, the Ministry of Defence and Sunseeker International. Follow the link to find out more about GT85 spray.
