HBM enhances TB2 torque reference transducers

HBM has made a number of improvements to its established TB2 torque reference transducer family to ensure they continue to meet the needs for very high precision results delivered quickly.

It is now possible to obtain accurate, traceable measurements much more quickly, as measurements can be taken directly rather than by using the familiar lever-arm calibration. The older model involved manually adding and removing weights, which was a time-consuming task.

Accurate torque measurement in test bench applications is increasingly important. This means that there is a corresponding increase in the significance of calibration for the torque transducers used in these test benches.

The TB2 torque reference transducer is now available with 100Nm and 200Nm measuring ranges and it allows traceability to national standards. This ensures safe and reliable torque calibration across an increased range.

Use of the reference transducer has been made more flexible because it is now equally suited to either non-rotational use in the laboratory or in an industrial environment. An IP67 version is now available for use in harsh industrial environments.

HBM says that the TB2 torque transducers already typically achieve best class 0.5, as per DIN 51309 or EA-10/14, for the minimum torque values of the measuring range, starting from 2 per cent. The standard for this class usually only requires a range of 20 to 100 per cent.

The TB2 also has strain gauges (SG) installed that allow all amplifiers supporting strain gauge full-bridges to be used. This includes, for instance, the ML38B precision amplifier module for the MGCplus system from HBM.
