High-speed gripper incorporates high-precision measurement

SMAC is introducing a compact, high-precision, single-axis gripper unit. The small overall footprint and light weight make this unit excellent for pick-and-place robotic applications, measurement and testing operations where high speed and accuracy are required.

The gripper has a stroke length of 5mm per jaw and a resolution of 5, 1 or 0.5um. Due to this level of accuracy, the unit is especially useful for measuring a workpiece while it is being picked and transported - which is useful for performing inline QC operations 'on the fly'. The unit also enables 100 per cent data feedback for all operations as standard.

With a high gripping force of 5N, and free and independent control of speed, gripping force and finger position, the unit is highly suitable for handling delicate components

It achieves this impressive performance through the use of specially designed internal components and SMAC's high-performance electronics. 'C' sleeve linear guides, which deliver exceptionally high life expectancy, and a high-resolution encoder are integrated into the optimised footprint. The part number of the unit is GLP5-20-10.
