How plastic bearings compare with metal ones in field test

When engineers from the igus dry-tech business were asked whether they had field-tested iglidur bearings, there were puzzled faces all round. A video shows that they actually went into a field to compare the performance of plastic bearings with their metallic counterparts on a cultivator.

Over a distance of 80km the cultivator that used metal bearings had to stop three times, so that the driver could lubricate the bearings. The cultivator that used the self-lubricating iglidur bearings from igus didn't need to stop for maintenance once.

Now factor in that most drivers are not too concerned about maintaining machinery, perhaps greasing once. This means that agricultural OEMs need to make their equipment bullet proof. Heavy duty, self-lubricating plastic bearings from igus are just the job.
