How to choose the right material for your fasteners

This quick guide from Essentra Components will help you select the right material for threaded and other fasteners.

How to choose the right material for your fasteners

Plastic fasteners are non-conductive and non-corrosive, and they also offer other benefits, depending on the application. Below are the materials Essentra offers for its fasteners ranges, with tips for which to use in various applications.

Nylon

Screws, nuts, washers spacers and rivets are all available as standard in 'general-purpose' Nylon.

PVDF

PVDF offers good resistance to chemicals, excellent mechanical strength and toughness, and good resistance to weather and UV, so PVDF fasteners are great for outdoor applications.

Polycarbonate

Essentra's polycarbonate screws, nuts, washers and rivets are highly transparent, which makes them suitable for point-of-sale displays.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene fasteners are good for applications that require resistance to acids. They also have a good temperature resistance.

PEEK

PEEK has excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance and can withstand elevated temperatures.

Metal

Essentra is well known for its plastic fasteners, but has now added mild steel and stainless steel fasteners to its range for those applications where plastic fasteners are unsuitable.
